Malaysia Bans Social Media for Under 16s
Malaysia has implemented a new law restricting social media use for children under 16. Effective Monday, the law requires social media companies to verify user ages and prevent those under 16 from creating or maintaining accounts. Companies failing to comply face fines up to 10 million Malaysian Ringgit. The government aims to protect children from harmful online content, cyberbullying, and mental stress caused by excessive social media use. While children circumventing the rules won't lead to parental punishment, the focus is on holding social media companies accountable. Malaysia joins countries like Australia, Brazil, and Indonesia in regulating children's social media access.
