WHO Calls for Ebola Travel Ban Reconsideration
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has urged countries to reconsider travel bans and border closures imposed due to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. Speaking at a press conference in Bunia, Congo, he emphasized that these restrictions hinder disease control efforts and undermine trust. He highlighted that timely, quality treatment can significantly improve patient recovery, even without fully recognized vaccines or specific medications. Congo aims to control the outbreak within four to six months, having significantly improved its testing capacity with no delays. Over 1,000 suspected cases have been reported.
