International Art Exhibition on South Asian Heritage in Kathmandu
An international art exhibition titled 'What Empire Took, What Empire Left: Museums, Borders and the Politics of Return in South Asia' is scheduled to be held on August 23 at the Taragaon Cultural Centre in Boudha, Kathmandu. Organized by Taragaon Next with support from the Saraf Foundation and curated by Dr. Arshia Mansoor Lokhandwala, the exhibition focuses on how South Asian cultural and religious heritage reached Western museums, the cultural disconnect caused by their displacement, and the politics of repatriation. It features works by eleven prominent artists from South Asia, exploring themes of colonialism, ownership, and the return of displaced artifacts like statues, manuscripts, and terracotta from Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
